WHO WE ARE
Paonia Taekwon-Do is a new martial arts school in the North Fork Valley. Weekly classes are held in both Paonia and Hotchkiss Colorado.
BooSabum (Instructor) Roslyn Bauer is a 3rd degree blackbelt who began her training in 1999 with Grand Master Kent Hups. Ms. Bauer earned her black belt in 2002 from the United States Taekwon-Do Federation and the International TaeKwon-Do Federation achieving High Test Score from Sereff Taekwon-Do. She continues to train under Grand Master Kent Hups and received her 3rd degree black belt from Traditional Taekwon-Do Alliance in 2019. Ms. Bauer was recently appointed as the West Slope Director of the Traditional Taekwon-Do Alliance, and would be happy provide information to ITF-style schools on the West Slope of Colorado regarding the benefits of membership in the Traditional Taekwon-do Alliance.
Ms. Bauer is a Ph.D scientist, a student of yoga, a triathlete, and an outdoor enthusiast. She brings elements of these interests into the do-jang. She founded Paonia Taekwon-do upon moving to the North Fork Valley with her family in 2016. Her 9-year-old twin sons are members of the class.
ABOUT OUR CLASS:
Our class is great for all ages and all abilities! We welcome students who've never practiced a martial art, those who haven't done taekwon-do for years (or decades!), and those who may have practiced another martial art in the past who'd like to join up with a great group of people, get fit, and learn something new!
Our class offers a caring environment where students can learn and grow within their own abilities. We believe that no one is too old to start learning and that we should always focus on what we can do instead of our limitations. For our younger students, we use games, races and challenges to teach our curriculum. For our older students we focus on visualization and the process of observing, doing, and then teaching others.
Paonia Taekwon-Do is a member school of the Traditional Taekwon-do Alliance (TTA), headquartered in Westminster, CO. Grand Master Kent Hups and Master Michael Pickering, as well as other TTA instructors, provide generous guidance, support and additional instruction to our school. We follow the same curriculum followed by the International Taekwondo Federation (ITF), teaching the Chang-Hon forms as instructed by General Choi. We also are thrilled to participate in west slope activities.
ABOUT ITF STYLE TAEKWON-DO
ITF-style taekwon-do is practiced world-wide. As practitioners of this type of TKD, we are members of a local community with numerous schools in Colorado and surrounding states. We are also part of an international community with schools all over the world. We teach kicking and punching, patterns, sport sparring, self-defense, and board breaking, within the framework of the 5 tenants of Taekwon-do: Courtesy, Integrity, Perseverance, Self-Control, & Indomitable Spirit.
